Mmm. For Linus' first release as a member of mono211, he breaks out the originality potion for a tribute to most excellent film director and composer, John Carpenter. Famous in the 70s for pictures such as "Escape From New York", "The Thing", and "Assault on Precinct 13", many people think Carpenter was one of the fathers of modern electronic music, with his sparse electronic scores for his movies. And Linus has crafted a rather crafty tribute to the man. Nope,...

Another Xmas present from us, ourselves, and we, and this time our Danish cookie Relief hits out with a really, umm, swell jungle track. Believe it or not, this is the man at his least abstract. Hah, smoke em if ya got em, that's what we say. :P And float, float away in a sea of otherworldly light until you meet your maker. And then inform him politely that Mono rule and see if he opens the gates? :) Umm, whatever. :P

The long-awaited return of the brothers stim, who recently soundtracked the Danish entry to the UK Breakdancing Championships at the Brixton Academy, and hit us pretty damn hard with this "We Have Explosive"-style exploration of the gap between jungle and bigbeat. Is it just us, or is it positively dangerously good? :)

Our Antipodean friend returns with this most excellent, super-mellow track from the end of last year. Watch it fly and swoop unobtrusively. :) I guess Chuck tends more towards the conventional than a lot of our members (I've heard him complaining that he can't get to do some of the more far-out jungle/triphop stuff we make because he just can't get the samples!), but his conventionality doesn't hide his musicality. Listen, and enjoy.

Guest release fever hits Monotown, and this one's smart, shipshape, and quite intoxicating. The Unconsciousness, nowadays signed up with Radical Rhythms, but a Mono associate for quite some time, has come up with some of the neatest Teutonic trance we've heard this side of, umm, a whole universe of sound. And it's already been remixed for an Ultrabeat music-disc by Assign/RR.. hah, but catch the original here. :)

Well, it's taken me almost 50 Mono releases, but I (h0l) have finally got round to releasing a proper tune on Mono (my other two releases were just cleaning up some minor unreleased stuff, really.) Phew. And it's my first tune for 6 months, too, due to final exams at uni, my new job, and running Mono all getting in the way. Anyhow, hope you enjoy the result. The "I wanna be a spaceman" sample is courtesy of Mr. Noel Gallagher of the popular beat combo Oasis, by the way, and it's...

A new guest release, this time from the rather attractively named Bay Tremore, and it's a really funky headnodder, blunted stylee. This track was introduced to us by Zyad, who's done quite a funky remix of it - this may come out on fsb sometime soon if we're all lucky :) Thanks to Mr.Tremore for letting us put out his most excellent tune, and remember, kidz, innovate, don't imitate (that's enough with the surreal song descriptions, you know who you are!)

A little more guest star action, and this time it's the rare and precious croaker frog of the genus tpolm+halcyon giving us some wickedly technotrickstical drum+bass noises. the digital edge on this track really kicks - it's got bite, and originality in a global communication sorta way, and damn, we wish we were all finnish ;) thanks to croaker for this one, and distance for arranging it. huplaaa! oh, it's release 150 for mono211, too, we've just spotted.. a great tune to have an anniversary...

Yep, there's been quite a few guest-tracks recently. Why? It's cos we like to break things up a bit and throw a few surprises and headshocks in there, we guess :) Mono gets maybe 4 or 5 guest-tunes sent to us a week, so naturally, only the absolutely kick-ass stuff gets through. And here's an example. From members of the rather excellent 3Krew outta deepest darkest Finland, here's a really, _really_ fucked-up triphop track. Wow, canya hear the screaming? Industrial-strength scariness.

Aha, the first release from Bay Tremore now he's a member of mono211, and there's some excellent shenanigans from his corner of the globe, in the form of "Twisted". Just say yes to weird sampled vocals and trippy drums, won't you? :) Btw, Bt's evil cousin may or may not have been responsible for a couple of the recently rockin' no'mo releases.. as always, they're limited edition, unlimited sedition, so if you don't have them now, start looking ;)

Take the rough with da rougher, courtesy of da Splif Productions guide to sonic trickery. Or, as it says in the song-text - "Prodigy - we ****ed em" ;) Ok, so this is hardly comforting home listening for first thing on a Monday morning, but it's certainly dangerously funky. Well, this is a Subi tune from a year or two ago which never got released, so I figured it was time to give it away now. It's pretty original, not least because the speeded-up voice is Subi himself and it's his own lyrics. Oh, and "the animal is back" figures in the words because the tune was construkted when Subi and I were in Desire. And that's their slogan. Sorted. Oh, and I think the main break is from Prodigy "One Love", isn't it? Finally, try saying the title out loud...

Some brand new material from the excellent Splif Productions, and it's some kinda classy, slow-as-hell 'triphop'. Or whatever you wanna call it. Another double-release, this time from TheFoxII, and the title track wins the award for the Mono tune which makes us jump around the most, ever. Yes, ever. Speed those housevocals up, throw in some breakbeats, we got a guaranteed barnstormer, it seems. As for the second track, it's a smart return to the style of earlier TFII releases on Mono - those chords are an absolute bitch to loop, tho. :)

First song of July, and a long-awaited new release from the Splif Prods crew. The amount of songs they produce is phenomenal, which always means it's pretty tricky choosing, but after a little pointer from Relief, this track stood out majorly. It's funky, it's dirty, it kicks like a mule, and it's everything your mother warned you about. :) Btw, try to play it in FastTracker if you can - certainly MOD4WIN doesn't like it and makes some interesting, if completely wrong static-noises. :)

Jeezus. :P Although you may have picked this up before, there can be no doubt this tune needs to be released again and again. ;) Previously, it's only had a limited edition release on the Internet via Supernao's homepage, and the ftp site it's stored on is staffed by microbes transferring data via osmosis, I'm convinced, it's SO slow! Anyhow, Supernao's given permission for Mono to give it a _proper_ release, and by God, it's a stomper. It's got everything, much like Supernao+Yolk's famous...

Back again, this time with a guest-release - thanks to the German duo Jazz n Smartass for providing the 24-carat entertainment, and the pretty damn stupid song title. :) Following the example of fellow Germans Hardfloor in the silly songname stakes, are we? :P Heh, it's a wikked track, anyhow. Mellow out.

The first track from Whiskas to go out on the Mono label, and it's a large, scarily detailed remix of his good friend Substance. Never mind the size, listen to the depth - this is really stretching four channels as far as it can possibly go. Total originality is what the crowd wants, and it's what the crowd gets. :)

Spookily, I've lost all contact with Supernao since his jaunt to England to be at Dan/Anarchy+Lemon's wedding. Maybe he caught the bouquet? :) In the meantime, I'm releasing one of his mellowest cuts, a track which I think was originally going to be for the Amiga disc-mag "RAW". Sadly, RAW's dead, so Mono's putting the tune out instead. Enjoy.

Prob. returns, this time on Mono211, with a track originally left off his debut Monotonik release because it was a little more Mono211-inclined. So we waited, and watched.. and put it out on Mono211. This is both tempestuous and practically horizontal at the same time, and sorta fun with it. Oh, congratulations to Prob. for making 7th (as far as we remember!) in the Assembly'98 music competition at the end of July. We completely forgot to mention it before now.. but now we recall. Total recall...

There's nobody who goes down the straight and narrow techno path better than TheFoxII, and he proves it again here with this waaay stylish trance-style track. Full marks for original use of some Deep Forest samples too.. way to go, Foxy. :P

Does the man know no end to his beginning? More wonderfulness from Vim!, to whom this track makes perfect sense, but to the rest of us.. wow. It seems random but it's all completely mapped out on graph paper before he starts. Next to his new inventions, the spaceship and the peanut that reverses time. Could you dance to this? Or just spasm? Heh, who cares? Just listen ;)

The first Mono release by Zyad, our newest member, and it's pretty easy to see how he fits in. Very nicely, as it happens. :) So, we got more downbeat bigbeat pleasures for your cerebellum - just sit up and say thankyou. Although there's definitely some scary, scary static-filled undertones to both these tracks. Be slightly afraid, be very slightly afraid. :)

This time round a visit to the sharper end of the Mono spectrum (no blunted beatz here..), and Substance's knack for the rhythmic but different shines thru. And 'liquid wax' describes the phasing SH-101 bass which is Kuu's trademark pretty well. Watch out for more Substance stuff soon, including tunes previously performed live at raves in Finland, heh. :)

A new EP from the always interesting Subi, and another example of his dense, breakbeat-led style. :) Curiously oldskool but somehow new at the same time - straange. You may, if you wish, try to decode the titles of the tracks too, but we have enough trouble even when he explains them to us. Oh, and doesn't the first track sound curiously like the tune by Static from the Rebels demo "Total Triple Trouble"? And that was about 1991. ;)

The independent state of Mono has officially declared a restriction on drum+bass tunes (oh yes, we've been releasing far too many!), and the first fruits of these restricted practices come from Twilight. I like this tune, mucho gracias senor. :) Watch out for more more more Twilight tracks (Scooby snacks!) very soon. ;)

Time for the third Monotonik release, and it's another damn original track, this time by Dharma. In any case, it's a great new release, it's "piercing your eardrums at 300m/s", and there's a danger of hospitalisation from the whiplash. So wear your hard hats and enjoy the chaos. :)

We be back, and it's a long-awaited guest release from linus/phd. One of mono's favourite artists, linus has gone ahead and donated us a couple of wicked new tracks. We're also re-releasing one of his very best releases on phase distortion ("stoopid interlude"). The reason we're doing this is firstly because we adore the tune, and secondly because we think there's a lot of people who listen to mono who haven't got round to listening to phd yet - so we're giving it a different (wider?)...

This debut release by Carebear is a wonderfully tranquil, meandering ambient piece. Not without beats, but with enough mellow percussion to give you that totally horizontal feeling. :) You only need to check the songtext to get all the information you need, forever. "The answer is in your mind".

Twilight returneth with this gorgeous newskool d+b track - like, forget the Amen, cut the midrange, drop the bass? :) As he says himself, a lot of the samples are from the totally wonderful Metalheadz label - so go get some Metalheadz now, mon! :)

Dreamfish returns with a groove that's both minimal and lush at the same time, and we have to nod our heads to this one, don't we? Unclassifiable? Yep. Groovable? More so. The transition halfway through the track is, incidentally, phat. Repeat play, please, and don't spare the horsepower. :)

Subi returneth after a looong break with this, his first tune not done on a old, old, oldskool Amiga 600. :) Which means, wow, his tunes can be longer than 350k now. :) So he's celebrated with this rather excellent breakbeat tune, again kinda reminiscent of early Prodigy, and with vocals from a certain slumbering band. Shh. :) We like releasing Subi's tracks because they're just a bit.. out there.

Licensed from our friends at Black Sista (thanks as ever to Ohgosh!), here's another wonderful Mortimer track that probably never reached as many people as it should have. This one especially rules because, just like The Wiseguys' "Ooh La La", it's just so much damn _fun_. We're hoping the Twangster's gonna come back with some more new tracks for bs!+m211 soon, but in the meantime, this'll have to do. And boy, it does pretty well. Altogether now..
